Choose CNC software
All software demos look good. Changing software later costs a lot of money.
Steps
- 1
Write down your facts: machine brand, model and controller, number of staff, jobs per week, type of work, how you draw now, and who will run the software.
- 2
Make a list of questions for the sellers:
Prompt to copy
I run a <size> joinery shop in Sydney with a <machine + controller>. Typical work: <kitchens/commercial/etc>. I'm comparing Mozaik, Cabinet Vision, Microvellum and PolyBoard. Write 20 questions to ask each vendor, grouped as: post-processor for my exact machine, nesting, hardware libraries (Blum/Hettich), AU support hours and local trainer, implementation time, total 3-year cost (licences, seats, maintenance, training), data export if I leave. No opinions on which is best.
- 3
Send the same list to every seller. Write their answers in a sheet.
- 4
Ask each seller for two Australian shops that use your machine. Call them.
- 5
Run a real past job in each trial (Mozaik has a 3-month paid trial, PolyBoard has a demo). Compare the number of sheets and the time.
Price details
The research itself is free. Software: Mozaik CNC $225/mo (en-AU page; currency not stated); PolyBoard USD $2,795-5,295 one-off; Cabinet Vision and Microvellum by quote.
Who is this for? / Time saved
Shops buying their first CNC, or changing their design-to-CNC software.
*Our guess (not measured): several hours of research. The real benefit is not buying the wrong software.
