Plan the workshop week
The whiteboard plan stops working when a delivery is late or someone is sick.
Steps
- 1
Keep one sheet: job, hours for each stage (cut, edge, machine, assemble, install), due or install date, priority, materials arrived (yes/no).
- 2
Every Monday, paste the sheet and who is available:
Prompt to copy
Here is my job list with hours per stage and install dates, and who is available each day this week (hours per person): <paste>. Build a day-by-day schedule for this week as a table (Day, Person, Job, Stage, Hours). Rules: a job cannot be assembled before it is cut and edged; materials-arrived=no jobs cannot start; protect install dates first. Then list any job that will miss its date and why.
- 3
Check the plan against real life (which machines are free, who is good at what) and change it.
- 4
If this works for you, move to a tool that plans automatically (ProCabinet auto-schedule, or Tradify/ServiceM8 for install bookings).
